If you are about to go to University and don’t know what degree subject to pick, DO NOT WORRY, I got you!
Just under five years ago I was in your position. I didn’t know what to study at University. I was stressed! And in a lot of pressure.
I didn’t want to pick a subject and hate it!
I didn’t want to pick a subject and fail.
I didn’t want to make a decision and not be successful and basically, spending the majority of my life paying off a degree that I actually didn’t enjoy it!
What a waste of money
Nevertheless, I was certain that wanted to go to University and I ended up going! I have just graduated in Human Resources Management and I loved my degree. Although, I loved my degree below are 3 tips I wished someone had told me before I picked my degree subject.
1- Do the Myers Briggs Personality Test, it’s free (MBTI)
I discovered the Myers Briggs Personality Test, during my second year of university, as I had to write an essay on it!
For me MBTI has been a life changer! I only wished I knew about it earlier.
The Meyers-Briggs personality test is a self-help assessment test, which helps individuals gain insights about their personality type; how they work; how they learn, their strengths and weaknesses. There is about 16 personalities types according to the MBTI.
(According to MBTI I am an ESFP, the Entertainer. The description of an ESPF, describes me perfectly!)
The Meyers-Briggs Personality Test, also gives you career choice options according to your personality type, which is great!
I believe that after doing to test you will have a clearer idea about what subject to pick at University.

2- Volunteer
If you know you like a subject but are not 100% sure you want to study it at University or if you have no clue what you actually want to do at University volunteer, volunteer a lot!
Do volunteering work at your local charity, contact companies directly and ask them if you could do a few hours of volunteering work for them e.t.c.
By volunteering, you will be able to get a real insight about a specific field; you will be able to develop a new set of skills and eventually find out what you like to do and what you don’t like.
So you will definitely have a clearer idea about what subject to pick at university if you do some volunteering work.
3-Describe your ideal self in ten years time
How do you imagine yourself in ten years time? What the best version of yourself would look like? What kind of skills do you need to develop in order to be where you visualise yourself in ten years time?
By doing this exercise you will find out what degree subject correlates the best with your ideal self and pick the right subject for you.
That’s the end everyone ❤ ! I hope the tips I gave you, will help you decide what subject to pick at University. Remember that this is not an easy decision so don’t be too hard on yourself and enjoy the process.
I am sure whatever subject you will pick, you will succeed 🙂
See you in the next post!
